RDA (Woodbridge and District Group) is part of a network of around 500 RDA groups throughout the UK, dedicated to improving the lives of people with disabilities through horse riding, carriage driving and other equine centred activities. Job description
The post involves the management of the centre, our equines and the team of staff and volunteers to ensure a high quality experience is provided for our participants.
Essential Requirements: Applicants must hold an equine qualification to a minimum of BHS Stage 2 Ride & Care, and hold or be or be willing to work towards a BHS Level 3 Ride & Care; or have proven skills and experience to an equivalent standard. A minimum of 5 GCSE (or equivalent) passes including maths and English. Plus experience/knowledge of:
• Supervision/management of a small team.
• Managing a small equine yard (8 - 12 equines).
• Managing onsite contractors and specialist services such as vets, farriers and physios.
• Local authority licensing process for equine establishments.
Previous experience of working with customers who have additional needs and their parents/carers; and of organising/managing volunteers is desirable.
Hours: 4 days per week, 8 hours a day. The ability to cover staff absence is advantageous. The role will include some weekend working.
Start date: January 2025
Main Duties:
• Day to day line management of Head Coach in collaboration with Operations Trustee.
• Day to day line management of Finance/Admin person in collaboration with Treasurer Trustee.
• With the Head Groom, overseeing and maintaining processes and control for good yard management ensuring the highest standards of equine care including managing the workload of horses.
• Maintain contacts with regional and national RDA to ensure group adheres to appropriate policies, practices and standards.
• In collaboration with Trustees and the Head Coach, when appropriate acquire new horses. Overseeing the bringing on and development of any new horses with the Head Coach and Head Groom.
• Maintaining Health and Safety standards: completing risk assessments and ensuring that all riders, volunteers, instructors, staff and visitors work within statutory requirements and RDA guidelines.
• In collaboration with Head Coach and Head Groom, ensure that the centre is run in accordance with the provisions and requirements of the Group’s local authority licence and provisions and requirements of BHS and ABRS accreditation.
• Volunteer Management
• Overseeing appropriate training to all volunteers, staff and support workers, working with horses and participants in collaboration with the Head Groom and coaches.
• Ensuring a positive experience for participants and being the first point of contact for feedback / complaints.
Pay: £24,000.00 per year
