British Equestrian is responsible for managing national classification on behalf of British Dressage, the Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) and British Carriagedriving, allowing athletes to participate in para equestrian competitions within their chosen discipline. We work closely with the British Paralympic Association (BPA) and Fédération Équestre Internationale (FEI) to ensure the classification system is compliant with their wider rules and regulations.
National Classification is made possible by a team of fully qualified physiotherapists who have been trained in Para Equestrian Classification to uphold integrity and standards within para sport.
The BEF’s para classification programme is supported by Sport England funding.
Purpose of the Role
Reporting to the Head of Integrity and HR, the Para Classification Coordinator is responsible for the day to day management and administration of the National Para Classification programme and for facilitating international classifications with the FEI.
The role encompasses processing of classification applications, organisation of classification evaluations as well as working with the Chair of the National Classification Panel on classifications, education and training resources for classifiers and riders.
What you will be doing
Ensuring the implementation of and compliance with national and international para classification rules and regulations
Processing applications for classification and providing support for the athletes/applicants as they go through the process
Dealing with appeals against classification decisions
Managing and maintaining the classification database and National Master List
Creating and managing the annual classification hub calendar to carry out athlete evaluations throughout Great Britain
Liaising and working with the Chair of National Classification Panel both in relation to classification applications and also to ongoing support and development for the classifiers.
Managing the team of para equestrian classifiers
Preparing and managing the para classification budget in conjunction with the Head of Participation who has overall responsibility for Sport England funding
Developing and maintaining relationships with Member Bodies and external organisations i.e. British Paralympic Association, British Blind Sport
Continuing to develop an education plan for athletes/support teams, coaches and Member Bodies
Maintaining the classification information website– keep up to date
Promoting Classification, for example creating a social media plan and content with the BEF Communications Team
What you need to succeed
The ability to follow and apply detailed regulations/guidelines, attention to detail and accuracy are essential.
Excellent computer skills with experience of Excel and general data input.
Good planning and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and meet timescales and remain calm under pressure.
Classification can be an emotive and complex area and so excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to be empathetic and deal constructively with people’s emotions will be essential.
A knowledge and understanding of Para Equestrian Classification would be desirable.
An ability to maintain confidentiality and act with discretion and diplomacy is crucial.
A commitment to excellence and to delivering high quality customer service.
Collaborative team player with an open and consultative style and optimistic ‘can do’ approach.

£32,000 - £33,800 (GBP)
