At Elysian, we believe in the power of equine learning to transform lives. We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Riding Instructor & Equine Lead to join our team. This role offers a unique opportunity to combine equine expertise with education and therapeutic support, helping children and young people develop confidence, resilience, and essential life skills through meaningful engagement with horses.
What You’ll Do
• Inspire & Educate – Plan and deliver engaging equine learning programmes for young people of all abilities, from beginners to advanced riders.
• Care & Oversee – Ensure the highest standards of equine welfare, overseeing horse health, care routines, and training.
• Coach & Lead – Provide mentoring and guidance to staff, apprentices, and volunteers, fostering a culture of learning and skill development.
• Support Young People – Work closely with children and young people, many with SEND and SEMH needs, using equine activities to support emotional growth and confidence-building.
• Ensure Compliance – Maintain accurate records to meet safeguarding, health & safety, and Riding Establishment Licence requirements.
Who We’re Looking For
Qualifications & Experience
• BHS Level 3 Coaching Qualification (desirable) – formerly known as AI.
• Experience in equine care, management, and coaching.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience working directly with clients, ideally in a SEND or SEMH education setting.
• Strong knowledge of safeguarding, professional boundaries, and health & safety in an equine environment.
Skills & Attributes
• Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to engage and inspire young people and staff.
• Confidence in managing groups with diverse needs, ensuring a safe and positive environment.
• Organised, proactive, and solution-focused, able to adapt to a fast-paced, outdoor setting.
• Passion for equine-assisted learning and its benefits for young people’s personal and emotional development.
Experience:
• Direct work with young people: 3 years (preferred)
Licence/Certification:
• Level 3 Coaching / AI / Equivalent (preferred)
