Job title: Trainee Clerk of the Course
Based at: Huntingdon & Newmarket Racecourses
Contract type: 12-18 months as a Trainee with placement at completion of programme
Hours: 40 hours per week
About the role
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Trainee Clerk of the Course to join our racing team. Working closely with our Heads of Racing, Regional Directors, Clerks of the Course, Grounds and wider Racecourse team, this role will complete a robust training programme to become a qualified Clerk of the Course.

The Trainee Clerk of the Course will:
¨ Complete all categories within the Trainee Handbook covering Fulfil to qualify to deliver a Clerk of the Course position:
A: Raceday Clerk of the Course,
B: Racecourse Husbandry and Safety
C: Race Planning and Funding.
¨ Develop a thorough knowledge and experience of turf management on a wide range of courses.
¨ Learn and experience course preparation practices on All Weather Tracks.
¨ Thoroughly understand and ultimately be able to deliver the role of the Clerk of Course including pre-race procedures, race day procedures and post-raceday procedures.
¨ Undertake a structured programme to visit and understand the demands of a Flat and National Hunt trainer and to experience their side of the business.
¨ Develop, apply, and demonstrate effective people management skills.
¨ Understand the roles of key industry participants.
¨ Support the Jockey Club Clerk of the Course/Head of Racing at major festivals and high-profile meetings.
¨ Gain hands-on experience in race planning, building strong ties with JCR and BHA Race Planning Departments.
¨ Receive media training to master television interviews and press communication.
¨ Be a key contributor projects to enhance The Jockey Club Racing function.
About you
¨ Passionate about racing with an interest in developing a career in Racing Operations
¨ Computer Savvy with experience using Microsoft Word / Excel / Outlook
¨ Hyper organised with outstanding attention to detail
¨ Proven multi-tasker confident within a busy office environment.
¨ Effective communicator comfortable dealing with a wide range of stakeholders
¨ Proactive approach to work capable to work alone and as part of a team.
¨ Comfortable travelling to multiple locations to complete the Trainee programme.
