As Trainer and Developer (Global), you will provide training and technical support to staff and external partners in the use of welfare assessment tools to support new and existing donkey welfare projects and programmes globally and will develop multilingual educational resources related to equid health and welfare. Such programmes will be culturally sensitive to the needs of each audience and set at a variety of different levels – up to and including degree level – and will be delivered in a wide range of global environments and languages.
About you:
Degree level qualification or similar in animal science, equine science, animal behaviour, animal welfare, anthrozoology or equivalent together with specialist interest in welfare assessment.
An excellent spoken and written command of English and a TDS priority language; Spanish, Amharic, Latin Portuguese or Swahili.
A working knowledge of donkey and hybrid welfare in a variety of contexts and a willingness and ability to work with and handle a range of equids.
Outstanding training and facilitation skills, and able to develop clear plans understood by others.
Experience of training, including written training resources for blended learning.
A proven track record of working outside of the UK (in a team and independently).
Working experience in the use of academic papers, data collection, analysis and reporting using quantitative and qualitative approaches.
About the role:
Your principal duties and responsibilities will include –
Developing multilingual health and welfare-related educational material and resources for the Donkey Academy and the University Partnership and Alumni Programme (UPAP).
Supporting internal teams and external partners to develop expertise in welfare assessment globally through training and mentoring.
Converting a range of existing face-to-face programmes focused on donkey health and welfare into culturally and linguistic appropriate online content.
Maintaining and developing courses aimed at professional users globally, setting and delivering clear educational goals and ensuring educational outcomes are of the highest quality, effectiveness, and relevance.
Championing the assessment of donkey welfare using appropriate welfare assessment tools to ensure that donkey welfare assessment, tracking and monitoring is at the heart of all programme planning, monitoring and evaluation.
In collaboration with operational teams, carrying out welfare assessments using an appropriate welfare assessment tool.
Supporting teams in the analysis of the findings from welfare assessments to provide guidance on areas for further programme support and intervention.
Providing advice to internal teams on the most appropriate welfare assessment or research methods to use.
What we offer in return:
This is a full-time, permanent contract starting as soon as possible, working 35 hours per week, 08.30-16.30, Monday-Friday.
Working chiefly from home, flexibility will be required for occasional site attendance at The Donkey Sanctuary, Sidmouth, and for overseas travel. The frequency for these requirements will be agreed between the Line Manager and post holder.
