Working as an integral member of the Training and Education (T&E) team, the Welfare and
Officials Officer has a vital role in helping to co-ordinate T&E programmes and projects relating
to the development of Stewards and Officials. In addition, they will play a critical role in the
management and implementation of our welfare development activities and action plan.
Reporting to the Training & Education Manager on a day-to-day basis, with an additional link to
the Sport Operations Manager on welfare matters and other related projects, the postholder will
work closely with the other members of the T&E team to deliver officials and workforce
development activities, as well as support the welfare reporting and investigation process.
Key priorities for this role:
• Organise and coordinate online and in person training for officials and any other
stakeholder groups as required.
• Work with relevant technical groups to further grow the Steward and Officials
education provision.
• Develop a range of training and activities related to the welfare of all participants (both
equine and human) within the sport, including safe recruitment procedures.
• Manage the welfare action plan and associated reporting procedures, liaising with the
Senior Management Team on the case management of welfare related matters.
3. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
• Attend and take the lead on training and development days for officials.
• Plan, coordinate, and monitor the impact of officials' development activities.
• Play an active role in the relevant technical committees and working parties to develop
the education provision for BD officials.
• Co-ordinate the implementation of the BD welfare action plan.
• Manage the day-to-day welfare reporting and monitoring procedures.
• Develop training materials and activities (in person and online) to meet the needs of all
T&E stakeholders, including welfare specific modules.
• Support the SMT on the case management of welfare related matters, to include the
investigation, reporting, and actions arising from any such incidents.
• Monitor, report and recommend improvements on welfare related policies, processes
and procedures, including associated T&E activity for the wider membership.
• Collaborate closely with T&E team members to develop education provision to upskill
officials and also our membership on key issues impacting the sport and the welfare of
its participants (both equine and human).
• Support the Training and Education Manager and other team members with the
coordination of technical committee and regional representative meetings.
• Travel to relevant Training and Education development activities or events as required.

4. REQUIREMENTS FOR THE ROLE
Knowledge / Experience:
Essential
• Strong organisational and administrative skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Experience of working in a training and education setting
• Knowledge of the development needs of officials in sport
• Experience of complaint handling in a customer service role
• Understanding of equestrian sport and the equine industry
• Experience of using video conferencing software such as Zoom, Teams etc.
• Computer literate, particularly in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel,
Outlook, and PowerPoint
• UK Driving license
Desirable
• Equine industry education qualifications and/or practical experience
• Experience of case management in a safeguarding/welfare environment
• Experience of organising in person conferences, seminars and training events
• Experience of developing education and training for a vocational subject matter
• Understanding of horse and/or human welfare processes and procedures.
